In honor of the opening of the exhibition American Letterpress: The Art of Hatch Show Print at the Austin Museum of Art, AIGA Austin and AMOA bring you a cultural icon you won't want to miss. Jim Sherraden, designer, manager, and archivist at Hatch Show Print since 1984, comes to us from Nashville to share the design values and imprint of Hatch Show Print. His slide lecture will cover the company’s colorful history, emphasizing its devotion to letterpress hand-set printing in an era of digital media. Introduction by Austin designer Marc English.
Since 1879, Hatch Show Print has been using the same hands-on, authentic process. They have designed and printed posters in Nashville, Tennessee for legends such as Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, R.E.M., Pearl Jam, the Beastie Boys and more. Hatch Show Print is akin to Austin's business culture in that it is a locally developed business started by creative passion. Jim Sherraden is author of the book "Hatch Show Print: The History of a Great American Poster Shop," which presents their experimentation in graphic design at its finest. He will be signing books and posters available at the event.
Free for AIGA and AMOA members; $10 for nonmembers. Contact Jennifer Idol with quetsions.
